Jimmy Himes-Ryann is a photographer and documentary filmmaker based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born and raised in Colorado during its “Hate State” era, they were actively shielded and prevented from accessing any representation of queer life during their youth. Documenting queerness in its entirety is now a cornerstone of their photography practice. They also cover political movements and protest across a spectrum of ideologies, including the intersection of anti-fascist protest and the rise of theocratic religious nationalist identities in the United States.

As a journalist, Himes-Ryann's investigative reporting has earned three Emmy Award nominations and two New Mexico Broadcasters Association Multimedia Journalist of the Year Awards. They are currently an adjunct faculty instructor at the University of New Mexico’s School of Communication and Journalism.

They began work on their current ongoing series Studies in Queer Performance in January 2023 and Studies in Protest in 2024.
